Thousands of fisherman fly into Southern Baja Mexico, from all over the world with the sole purpose of landing just one Roosterfish! The Cerralvo Island, Las Arenas region south of La Paz in Baja Mexico, offers the Roosterfish enthusiast the best chance of landing that trophy Roosterfish over any other destination in the world! The World Record Roosterfish of 114 pounds was caught just a few miles from our resort! Countless others have come close to the record over the years. The Cerralvo Island Region of Baja Mexico is truly the Roosterfish capital of the world! We at Vista Cerralvo, strongly encourage catch-n-release of the beautiful Roosterfish as they have made a strong comeback in numbers over the years! Commercial gill netting, and irresponsible sportfishing took it's toll on the Roosterfish population some years back. Although, the Roosterfish ranks high as one of the most exciting gamefish in the world, it also ranks low for it's table quality... there's really no excuse not to release 'em. This hefty Roosterfish in the above photo was caught and released directly from our beachfront while blind casting a white feather jig, notice the north end of Cerralvo Island in the distance... Moments later, a larger Rooster would break this anglers line just a few casts after this photo was taken!

with live bait is no doubt one of the most productive methods for catching a large Roosterfish in Baja Mexico. However, I've seen some real huge Roosterfish taken right off the beach on foot with a fly rod, spinning gear, and even conventional tackle. Fly Fishing for Roosterfish has become extremely popular over the years... Also, Kayak fishing for Roosterfish has become just as popular. But don't be fooled, these fish are no push-overs! It takes patients, the right baits, lures, flies, and presentation to be successful.
